We are walking in the 2012 London Legal sponsored walk on May 21st to raise funds for free legal advice to the poorest and most disadvantaged members of our community.
London Legal Support Trust supports the work of London legal advice agencies through fundraising that is then targeted at requests for assistance from law centres and other agencies. Financial support helps to overcome urgent funding crises, develop new services and diversify funding streams, support appeals and improve premises.
Delivering legal services to individuals in distressed circumstances, with little or no experience of navigating the legal system, has never been glamorous work. With changes to the way free legal services are funded, many law centres and public legal advice agencies are facing an even greater challenge, that of the complete closure of their service.
It's difficult to estimate the impact this will have on individuals and the communities in which they live. At the extreme end it could mean homelessness and destitution, but at the very least it will mean many people will be subject to unnecessary injustice and the associated distress it can cause.
From our own pro bono work and support of the voluntary sector we have seen first hand the benefit of legal advce to people in need and we know how much London's advice agencies need financial support.
Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
