My name is Holly Mackay and I am currently a 6th year pupil at Lochaber High School. I have recently been selected by Project Trust(SCO25668) an educational charity which sends school leavers between the age of 17-19 on either eight months or twelve months in Asia, the Americas and Africa. 
I have been selected to go to Chile in August of this year for 12 months  to teach English to underprivileged and impoverished children  in either a primary or secondary school, as well as setting up extra curricular activities. Chile is a country of extreme wealth and extreme poverty in which I will witness street children and families with nothing. English is a compulsory subject yet 1,500 English posts go unfilled each year. That is why Chile needs volunteers like myself who can offer their skills to give those children the necessary education which they would otherwise not receive. I am excited at being accepted to take part in this worthy and challenging task. 
To enable me to embark on such an amazing experience Project Trust asks that I raise £5,100. This will go towards my accommodation with a local host family, travel expenses, insurance, support, training and debriefing. They ask us to do this to show our commitment to the charity and to prepare us for the challenging year ahead.

I have been selected to go to Chile in August of this year for 12 months  in which during my year I will be working at Fundacion Coanil, a home for adults and children with additional support needs. The children living in the home have suffered from abuse and adandonment. I will be working in the home which houses around 200 people between the ages of 2 and 52. There is also a Fundacion Coanil school within the compound which has pupils between the ages of 2 months old to 25 years old, I will be working in a small class supporting the teacher in teaching basic skills.

During the school holidays (Dec-March) I will work at the home full time. In which I will be working with the residents in groups or one-to-one. I will organise activities such as arts and crafts etc.
