Charity
UCARE (Urology Cancer Research and Education) is a charity founded by a group of clinicians, patients and supporters who care about fighting urological cancers. Our aim is to improve the treatment and care of cancer patients through research and education. Our vision is to find new ways to fight cancer, and our aims are: To support research into the causes, prevention and treatment of urological cancers and related conditions. To promote the development of new technologies that will help to improve the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers and related conditions. To provide equipment and facilities for research, and for the treatment of cancer patients. To provide information and education about urological cancers.

London to Cham - on a bike!
Hi, thanks for visiting our page. As most of you know I was diagnosed with testicular cancer just over a year ago. I have received an amazing level of care and support from UCARE, a small charity based in Oxford that promotes awareness and researches better treatment of urological cancers (ie prostate, kidney, bladder and testicle). Over 20% of cancers diagnosed in the UK every year are urological. Luckily I took quick action and sought medical help and still receive very regular check ups from my oncologist, a founding member of UCARE. The embarrassing nature of the conditions can mean than some sufferers delay seeking help but the awareness raising work UCARE perform is vital to remove these stigmas.
To raise awareness and vital funds for the charity I decided to challenge myself - buy a bike and cycle from London to Chamonix in the French Alps. I've been joined by my great friend Andy Symington and I hope a few others will join for a mountain stage or two! My sister Alison and good friend Juzz are driving the support vehicle and supplying the water and energy bars on the promise of a party at the other end.
NEWS FLASH: my friend and colleague Max Haycocks is now joining the challenge.
We aim to leave Greenwich on Sunday 23rd May 2010 and cycle the 620 miles in six days, over the Jura mountain range and then up the Alps into Chamonix where the largest mountain in Europe stands. This is a serious mileage in such terrain and we'll be burning up to 7,000 calories a day. By the way, the photo is of me in all my new bike gear I got for Christmas and after eating too many mince pies.....
My blog is working now www.gobragg.com
