The Huntington's Disease Association exists to support people affected by the disease and to provide information and advice to professionals whose task it is to support Huntington's disease families. We operate a Regional Care Advisory Service which consists of a team of Regional Care Advisers who provide information and advice to families, answer crises calls and liaise with other professional service providers, promote and develop a full range of local services, identify suitable respite and residential care facilities, liaise with local branches and self-help groups, give talks and organise seminars and training days provide speakers for training sessions, provide workshops for service providers and users such as health, social services, nursing homes, and residential care staff teams.

It’s been three years since I last did any fundraising and after going from couch potato to half marathon runner, I wondered what challenge I can set myself this time. Armed with my new special insoles and regular trips to the chiropractor, I have signed up to do the national 3 peaks.  What is this I hear you ask?  Well the challenge involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK.  Starting at Ben Nevis in Scotland at 5am, traveling straight onto the Lakes to complete Scafell Pike and finally to Snowden in Wales.  The driving route is 462 miles long and I‘m aiming to complete it in 24 hours. So the challenge is tough, coupled with sleep deprivation and a dodgy back, it’s going to be physically and mentally draining but I can do it!

Apart from being a bit daft (no comments please!), the main reason I’m doing this is to raise money and awareness for Huntington’s Disease (HD).  As you may know, my mum sadly passed away from this in her late forties. HD has always been and will continue to be a big part of my life and yet lots of people have still not heard about it.  With your support, not only can we help to find a cure, continue to provide a service for families and carers, we can also help to create awareness.  The more people that know about it, the sooner it can stop being passed on from generation to generation.

So this is going to be a big challenge.  Over the next couple of months I’ll be doing lots of training in the evenings and weekends, even curbing drinking so much (yes really) all to give me thighs of steel to help get up and down those mountains (something like that anyway!).  So please dig deep, I know everyone is strapped for cash at the moment but anything you have will be greatly accepted.  Thank you for your support.
