The Mayhew is one of the busiest and most effective rescue centres in London, helping thousands of animals escape from a life of cruelty and neglect each year. We provide shelter and care for cats, dogs, rabbits and when the need arises, for a wide variety of other animals.

Stunning sea views, fresh crisp clean air and the very best of Bournemouth and Poole will be on show as the south coast is home to a new international marathon for the first time. The perfect environment has produced the natural environment for “running as it should be”. Entries are open for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival which will see thousands of runners from all over the world take to the streets of the coastal resorts on October 5th and 6th 2013. Marathon runners will have the opportunity to take in Bournemouth pier and the award winning Boscombe pier in this new family friendly running festival. Typically if you want to enter a major run such as a marathon, half marathon, or 10k you have to choose different venues and dates. The Bournemouth Marathon Festival brings all of these together in one unique festival of running. On Saturday 5th, October there’s the 5k “speed of light race” which takes place at dusk with emphasis on light around the route, providing runners and spectators with an unforgettable race. The “supersonic” 10k will be run while motivated by the local music of the area. There will also be two fun mass participation junior running races across 1.5k and 3k distances. Then on Sunday 6th October there’s the half marathon and at the heart of this weekend will be the establishment of the Bournemouth marathon - the pinnacle of endurance athletics. The Bournemouth Marathon Festival is also a chance to make a difference to other people’s lives by raising money for charity. Macmillan Cancer Support is the Bournemouth Marathon Festival official charity but there are hundreds of affiliated charities to choose to run for. Entries are now open for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival on October 5th and 6th 2013. Come and experience a stunning coastal festival of running like no other - "running as it should be"!

I am running for the Bournemouth Marathon for the Mayhew as the impact of the government’s austerity policy is having an impact on animals as well as humans.
On a recent visit I was told that the Mayhew has seen a recent spate of kittens being dumped and abandoned
Paul Grimes, The Mayhew’s animal welfare officer, told the Kilburn Times that: “there are so many unwanted kittens arriving with us daily that we urge anyone to approach us for help rather than abandon their animals in an environment which may cause them to face a terrible and frightening death.”
Can you help me support the Mayhew?
