Marathon Des Sables 2010
I have now competed in the 2010 Marathon Des Sables (Marathon of the Sands), a 7 day ultra marathon through the Sahara Desert. This year’s event covered 250 km (155 miles) and was broken down into 6 stages, the longest being 82 km (51 miles). Temperatures reached 50°C (122°F) and competitors had to be self-sufficient for the 7 days.
Along with the marathon, I raised money for the Association For International Cancer Research, which is a charity funding the world’s most promising and innovative cancer research, regardless of political boundaries. I supported the AICR for personal reasons as well as the fact that cancer is such an extensive illness, which cannot be treated effectively at present. Indeed, currently 25% of the UK population will die as a direct result of cancer.

I am no longer raising money for the AICR, but £2063 (including Gift Aid) was donated to the charity and I am extremely grateful to all who made donations. I am confident that the money raised will be spent wisely by the charity.
