Yorkshire Cancer Centre
Yorkshire Cancer Centre is the fundraising arm of St James's Institute of Oncology in Leeds. Our ongoing appeal directly benefits cancer patients in this excellent modern facility which opened in 2008. The Centre provides a range of medically-advanced cancer services to a catchment community of more than 2.6m people across Yorkshire. The Appeal's focus is four-stranded: specialist medical equipment, reseaarch and education programmes, patient 'home comforts' and the arts and gardens projects. Your contribution, no matter how modest, will enhance patient care to make this world-class facility a leading force in the early prevention, diagnosis, treatment and after-care of this indiscriminate disease that still affects one in three lives in the UK.

Jeremy Hayden's Trek Kilimanjaro Page

Fundraiser:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JeremyHayden

Hi, thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am going to trek on the machame trail over 7 days to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2016. I am raising money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre charity whose aim is to improve the quality of life for thousands of cancer patients treated in St James's Institute of Oncology, Bexley Wing, Leeds.

The altitude of Kilimanjaro summit Uhuru Peak is 5895 m (19341 ft). It is a difficult and dangerous challenge and I am planning to improve my fitness for the trek over the next 18 months - hence the early start to fundraising. I have been to point Lenana, Mount Kenya (4985 m) and the summit of Mount Fuji (3776 m) previously. This ascent has been a lifetime ambition.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to The Yorkshire Cancer Centre. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.  I have funded the travel costs of the trip and so any donations received by you will go directly to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal.

My father passed away prematurely from lung cancer 14 years ago when I was 31. This trek is dedicated to his memory. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Note added on 17th March 2016. I have managed to complete this most difficult challenge that life has presented so far. It got progressively harder as the days went by and this continued right the way down again. But we had a fantastic group (we called ourselves team 'Simba') that stuck together and made it up to the summit and down safely. Thanks to Justin and all those at Global Adenture Challenges and all the guys from Ahsante Tours (in Tanzania) who did a great job of allowing us to complete this trek. It was a real privilege to be able to do this. Once again I thank you sincerely for all your donations and will keep the page open until May to try and reach 10K.
