MISSION The Institute’s mission is to work to prevent the extinction of chimpanzees through conservation, research and education. Wildlife Research studying chimpanzees and other primates. Conservation activities that ensure the long-term preservation of chimpanzee habitat. Education to heighten global awareness of the issues facing wild and captive chimpanzees and to foster an awareness and understanding of the interdependence of all life. Animal Welfare activities to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of chimpanzees and other captive animals. HISTORY Jane Goodall founded the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation internationally in 1977. Initially JGI aimed to provide ongoing support for field research on wild chimpanzees, to help arrest the rapid decline of chimpanzee populations in the wild and to stop their neglect and abuse in captivity. The Institute's mission has now expanded to include conservation and environmental education, reforestation projects, and natural resource management for the purposes of habitat conservation and protection. PROJECTS Sanctuaries, where chimpanzees orphaned by poachers are provided with long-term care and rehabilitation. JGI has sanctuaries in Congo, Uganda and South Africa. Habitats, including the Gombe Stream Research Centre, where Dr Goodall and her staff have observed and documented wild chimpanzee behaviour since 1960, and Kibale Forest National Park. Congo Basin Project, launched by JGI in 2000, it addresses the root social and economic influences that drive participation in the bushmeat trade. TACARE, a reforestation project in western Tanzania, focused on improving the residents’ standard of living while promoting sustainable agriculture, reforestation, curbing soil erosion, and providing educational opportunities for the local population. Roots & Shoots, an environmental and humanitarian education programme for young people.

Jo Peace's fundraising page
Hi, I’m Jo Peace. Thanks for visiting my Virgin Money Giving page.
I’m raising funds for Dr Jane Goodall’s “Roots & Shoots” program, by taking part in the Brooks Brighton 10K run on November 21st.
The Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects, youth-led campaigns and an interactive website, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe.
I feel passionate about supporting the Roots & Shoots program, as it’s really about promoting world peace. As Dr Jane says, "just dare to dream of peace. Just think about what the world will be like when the time comes, as it will, when there's no more war- that's what Roots & Shoots is all about."
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Roots & Shoots. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on Roots & Shoot's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
Thanks a million for your support and donations.
