Right To Play
Right To Play programmes aim to improve the lives of children affected by poverty, war and disease. We work closely with communities to set up sport and play programmes designed to teach important skills including leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication, commitment, respect and fair-play. The network and infrastructure we set up enable local communities to take ownership of the programmes, leaving a long lasting impact.

Hello!

Thanks for visiting my fundrasing page!

On 9 October I'll huff and puff through London's most beautiful parks while probably resembling more a beetroot than a human being but alas, that's what you do when you're passionate about running for kids!

So here's what you can do:
-Donate money (hooray!)
-Laugh (because who the heck runs 20+km "just for fun")
-Come and support tomato-face (aka yours truly) on the day of doom.

What happenes with your money? Well I better quote the people of Right To Play:

£5 Just £5 is what it costs us to teach a child about malaria, meaning that they are less likely to contract the disease, and they can detect the symptoms in themselves, their family and friends in time to treat the disease.

£25 For only £25, we can include a child in our programmes so that they participate in regular, weekly sport and play activity for a whole year, with long lasting impact on their lives as they grow up.

£120 We need just £120 to be able to train a local member of a community to teach Right To Play games. That leader will access hundreds of children in his or her community and ensures that our programmes are long lasting and sustainable.

Did you know that each year there are more than 225 million cases of malaria? It's absolutely crucial that the affected people get all the treatment they can get. But what is even more important is education. If people don't know what malaria is they won't think they need treatment (until it's too late).

But Right To Play isn't only about disease-prevention (as you know from the text above). It's also about (who would have guessed...) the right to play.

While volunteering in Nicaragua we met some amazing kids that live in sheer poverty. They had shoes but they had holes in them. They had clothes but they were ripped. Nevertheless they were incredibly happy. I think what contributed to that sheer joy was the daily game of baseball (heaven knows why exactly that game is so popular over there...). And when you see kids being this happy, even in the poorest circumstances, you want to make sure that every single kid on earth feels exactly the same.

Maybe that's a bit idealistic but we all have to start somewhere.

That's why I run this race for Right To Play.

Thanks for reading this massive text. And thank you for donating. You don't know how much it's appreciated.
