Charity

The Daisy Garland
A family-run national children’s charity providing active support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their parents/carers. The charity was set up in memory of our daughter Daisy who tragically died at 6 years of age from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). We provide NHS hospitals with ketogenic dietitians - a medically recognised and accepted way of treating drug resistant epilepsy. This diet is not widely available on the NHS due to lack of funding. We also provide grants for night-time breathing monitors to children with drug-resistant epilepsy.
Only 0 days to go!

On the 27th October, I will be running the Dublin marathon and I would like to raise some much needed funds for a small charity, The Daisy Garland; a charity helping and supporting children and families with drug resistant epilepsy.

I have chosen this particular charity as I recently met a fabulous boy who unfortunately has this terrible illness. He and his family have recently had help and support from the charity, he is now following the ketogenic diet (assisted by the charity), and whilst some days are better than others, there are amazing positives being seen.

Hi Kate
This is so kind and we are very grateful to you for your support.  Thank you.  We are no longer registered with Just Giving (due to high commission fees), instead you can find us at Virgin Money Giving (where there are no fees at all, so every penny you raise will be donated to The Daisy Garland).  I hope it's OK for you to set up a Virgin Money Giving page?
Please feel free to take any information from our website to add to your page (including our logo if you need it), but in a nutshell here's something that you might want to add to your page -
On (add the date here) I am going to be running the (add the name of the event here), raising funds for The Daisy Garland because (add your reason here).
The Daisy Garland is a family-run, national, registered children's charity supporting set up in memory of their daughter Daisy who died in her sleep from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients) at the age of 6.  Daisy battled with Dravet Syndrome from the age of four and a half months - a condition that shortens and destroys lives.
Their main two projects are to provide funding for Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitians, treating some of the 18,000 children in the UK who suffer from drug resistant epilepsy.  To date they have funded 11 dieticians, each full time dietitian costs c.£45,000 pa.
They also provide funds for night-time breathing (SATs/Epilepsy) monitors keeping children safe at night while they sleep.  Each SATs monitor retails at £880.  Since January 2014 they have funded 141 of these lifesaving monitors.
For more information about the charity and to 'meet' some of the brave and wonderful children they support please visit 'The Daisy Garland' Facebook page, or visit their website at www.thedaisygarland.org.uk
Thank you.
Kate, thank you again, so much for your support.  We really couldn't do the work that we do without the support and generosity of people like you.
Please let us know when you are planning your event so that we can post the details on our FB page along with a link to your Virgin Money Giving page.
Best wishes

If you are able to donate any amount, it will help to make a difference to families, help children to overcome and manage their epilepsy, help parents to sleep at night knowing their children's breathing is bring monitored, and help change lives

Thank you.
