Charity
Mind has been speaking out for better mental health for 60 years and is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. At Mind, we work for a better life for everyone with experience of mental or emotional distress.

London Marathon: Kate's Fundraising Page
On the 22nd April 2012, I will be running the London Marathon in memory of my Dad, John Rothery. I know Dad would probably been slightly concerned about me running the marathon (he did see me dragging myself through Wolverhampton cross country meets) but I know that if I make it round, he would have been really proud. It’s even better to do it in the Olympic year too…. If you think I’m obsessed with the Games, he would have been so much worse.
As well as running, I’m raising money for Mind, a mental health charity… Depression got the better of Dad despite being one of the strongest people I knew and there are still so so many people out there who are having a really hard time and don’t know where to turn, what to do.
Mind isn’t the best-known or biggest charity, but the work they do is really important to those who have suffered mental health problems and those who are still struggling to cope with depression. Not only do they support sufferers and their families and friends with support groups, help lines and projects, but they also campaign tirelessly to raise awareness of mental health issues. This means that people who have experienced mental distress are treated fairly, positively and with respect, like with any other illness. If we can talk more openly about mental health, then fewer families will have to go through what we did…. I really hope so.
It means a lot to be able to run in their vest next April. To find out more about what they do visit: www.mind.org.uk/thisismind
Thank you to all those who sponsor me, it means a lot and will keep me going through the freeeezing cold training runs. If you know me, you’ll know I really need the extra boost of will power!
If you have any stories about Dad that you can share, you know we’d love to hear them…..
Lots of love, Kate xxxx
