2010 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall. Since the first race in 1981, 746,635 runners have passed the finish line and raised more than £400 million for charities and good causes. Last year alone a staggering £47.2 million was raised, making the event a Guinness World Record holder as the largest annual fundraising event on the planet.

Bonjour, thank you SO much for taking a sneaky peek at my fundraising page!

Well as I think you have gathered by now from all the red glitzy advertising down in the left corner... I have got a place to run in this year's London Marathon (Yes, I know you are probably as shocked as I was... it's alright you don’t have to run it to help me fundraise...I promise!)

I am going to be running to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation charity which I think is just a great charity as it is very close to my heart (excuse the pun!). As I am sure some of you are well aware my mum died from heart disease early in 2002 and since then some good friends and other family members have being affected by the disease. I am sure as you are reading this, you could name a few people yourself.

People are more likely now to die from heart disease than any other serious illness and that includes cancer. The BHF is THE charity which helps pioneer research into the causes of heart disease and works out some of the solutions to them (you’ll be glad to hear!). The average spend is £200 every two minutes which is spent on research, supporting and caring for current heart patients, providing life saving equipment and pastoral care training to help local hospitals, communities and individuals...so the disease lessens!

I NEED your help and encouragement to know that when I train, I am not alone and by running the crazy amount of 26.2 miles (yes, I think we all know it is not something that comes naturally to me!)  that I will be raising awareness of heart disease and it will be worth it! I plan to raise £3000.00 for the BHF through personal sponsorship, running a few events up in Aviemore, producing a 'Have healthy heart' book and by shaking those tins and rattling those pockets...

So please dig deep and help me run in memory of all those people who did so much for their time and for all those others who need a bit of extra time.
