Liverpool Charity And Voluntary Services
LCVS (Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Service), is a registered charity that promotes philanthropy and community involvement. We believe passionately in the voluntary and community sector and that people should be inspired and supported to make a positive difference to their communities. Founded in 1909, we are one of the largest umbrella bodies for the voluntary and community sector in Merseyside and one of the largest distributors of funds in the North West. During the past 100 years LCVS has helped make a difference by: * Supporting voluntary and community sector organisations to be the best they can be. * Helping individuals to give their support to good causes. * Giving business the opportunity to become more involved in supporting the communities in which they work. * Enabling local communities to have a voice and help to improve quality of life for all. LCVS offers a variety of services to help people make a difference. We have several specialist teams; * Liverpool Community Network * Capacity Building * Charity Services * Community Accountancy * Liverpool LINk, Through our projects we provide information, capacity building services, training activities, advice and support services to others working in or with the voluntary sector.

BikeRide

Well!  Nigel Lanceley and Chris Moore (combined ages 131) made it from Lands End to John O'Groats a total of 1018 bike miles over 14 days starting on 1 June.

We took 3 ferries, crossed countless bridges and went through 23 counties.  Apart from a few minor mechanical problems, one puncture and one tyre blow-out, all proceeded smoothly give or take some unpleasantly wet weather over three days from Shrewsbury to Moffat.  We were unsupported on the road but were joind by Alan Durbin for a few miles and a Jubilee pub lunch near Nailsea, and by Chris' partner Annie for two of the very wet stages in the middle.  Support and succour came from Ann and Bob Chadwick as we went by Chester and by Andrew and Barbara Farmer who, with Libby, joined us at Keswick.  We owe an enormous debt of gratitude in particular to Trevor Leary who met us at Thurso, collected us at John O'Groats then took us south to Edinburgh for a night stop in his flat before driving us home.  What a marvellous contribution!

Donors have already been extremely generous but we are keeping the site open for a few more weeks in case anybody else is minded to support their chosen charities - Hoylake Cottage (for the care of the elderly) and Claire House (for the comfort of terminally ill children and their families) they can do so through their charitable website http://uk.virginmoneygiving.co/team/LanceleyandMooreCharityBikeRide

All monies collected will be paid to Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services ( LCVS) and they will divide the total between the underlying charities. Cheques and other payments can be made to 'LCVS ( Lanceley and Moore Charity Bike Ride ) ' if website giving is not suitable.

Again - our thanks to everyone for their generous support.

Nigel & Chris
