2010 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall. Since the first race in 1981, 746,635 runners have passed the finish line and raised more than £400 million for charities and good causes. Last year alone a staggering £47.2 million was raised, making the event a Guinness World Record holder as the largest annual fundraising event on the planet.

I am running the Marathon for two reasons - one to prove to myself that I can do it as a personal challenge, and secondly to support The Outward Bound Trust and earn as much as possible for them through sponsorship.


I have chosen to support The Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that uses outdoor experiences and challenges to help and develop young people.
I had the pleasure of visiting an Outward Bound centre and spent 3 days in the beautiful Welsh countryside, where I witnessed what The Outward Bound Trust is all about and I have to say I was very impressed. This charity takes children who have few social community or communication skills, and in only a few days teaches them basic survival skills and more importantly how to work in teams, have confidence in themselves, and more respect for the individual, friends and peers.  This charity is playing a vital role in helping to tackle the problems with antisocial behaviour of which so much has sadly been the focus of attention in the news recently.  I am pleased to have the opportunity to raise some cash to help the charity continue all the hard work!

The training Lee is doing:

A completely free way to keep up to date with Lee's marathon training is to read his monthly guide, the monthly diary charting Lee's journey to the marathon.  Find out what shoes and clothing he has chosen to get him through, see how he is using the latest GPRS and Heart Rate technology by Garmin in his training programme, and learn about his tailored nutrition plan - how he's fuelling his body and conditioning his system in prep for the big day. Lee is also showing how training in the gym with weights is important alongside the running itself.  All this plus loads more month by month leading up to the marathon exclusively on www.famouslyfit.com
