Trek to the home of the Dalai Lama, Himalayas

5 December 2011 - Thanks to all who sponsored and supported me.  I successfully completed the trek.  A few challenging moments and frustration but reflecting on words of support and donations provided needed motivation during the tough times.

If you would like to sponsor now I have completed the challenged schedule your support would be appreciated.

Regards

Lisa

After successfully completing the Sahara Desert Trek September 2010, for Acorns Children's Hospice, no 4x4 or camel rescue, the daily goals to arrive to each new camp base was achieved  by way of my blistered feet patch worked with compeed plasters and tape,  I have well and truly developed a charity trek bug.

Although the Sahara offered many challenges, some which had not even crossed my mind, and it was indeed tough.  I cannot stop reflecting and realising that the experience, raising money and awareness for the children and parents of Acorns was well worth the lows, difficult times and odd tears of frustration due to the soul destroying heat.

And so today on my birthday 6th December, I have paid my deposit in full to Charity Challenge to receive a birthday present discount and  "Trek to the home of the Dalai Lama, India Himalayas" November 2011.

I have booked months in advance to make me commit to this goal for Acorns children, by providing plenty of time for me to save and once again SELF FUND,  train for the trek, and most importantly to allow all you lovely sponsors a chance to recover from your previous generous donation, oh and hopefully find new sponsors too.  I hope you will support, encourage and motivate me, BUT ABOVE ALL ONCE AGAIN OFFER YOUR HELP TO ACORNS LIFE LIMITED CHILDREN.

Yes I must be crazy for signing up again, so why am I putting myself through another challenge instead of booking my annual leave to relax on a beach, sipping cocktails and catching up on reading those books put on hold!?

Well, for various reasons:

  • I am a befriender volunteer at Selly Oak Acorns Children's Hospice, working one to one with life limited children and/or siblings in my free time after working a fulltime week.  I've also helped with house keeping duties and quiz nights.
  •
  • I have a soft spot for Acorns Hospice.  Most people assume the hospice environment is sad or upsetting, it's quite the opposite, plenty of fun and laughter is essential for the children, siblings and parents/carers, helping living out the best of their lives.
  •
  • It is a very worthwhile charity helping life limited children and their families.  Quoted by parents as "a lifeline."
  •
  • I wanted another goal to challenge me to get back out doors walking and committing to something that is valuable to me, discipline myself and support a charity at the same time to inspire this.  I dedicated every Sunday over a 5 month period to prepare for the Sahara Trek walking for miles/hours either the towpaths or Malvern Hills.   In addition I also paid for personal training and stuck to a gym timetable.
  •
  • I'm going to face another new environment, this time it’s the cold, camping outside with extremely basic living, 6 or 9hrs trekking per day over a 7 day period, 1-3 ascents and descents. I will be working through this with a new group of people I don't know.
  •
  • This also means taking my annual leave from work, saving to self fund to enable me to raise Acorns’ profile and hopefully complete the challenge. No doubt once again there will be various highs and lows and further self development, all for a good cause!

If you sponsor I will commit and dedicate my efforts to train for this event. A self funded trek, kind donations do not pay me, or fund any overheads/expenses to participate.  I use annual leave allowance from my full time occupation.   All this is my donation to Acorns.

Thank you for visiting - and if you donated ((((BIG HUG)))) - Love you!!! :oD

Kind regards

Lisa
