I have decided to run the London Marathon because each year I have watched it on TV, it has always given me goose bumps and made feel that one day I would like to be a part of that event.

This year I turn 40 and decided this had to be the year I took on the challenge.  I have run a few half marathons and at the end have always said to myself, ”I am glad I don’t have to do that all over again”!.  Although it will be a personal challenge for me it does not compare to the daily challenges faced by those living with Spinal Injuries.  I am excited to be a part of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) London 2013 Marathon team.

SIA is my chosen charity because I have a very close friend who suffered a spinal stroke in her 20’s which has left her paralysed  and as a Personal Injury Lawyer I represent clients who have suffered spinal injuries.  From both a personal and professional capacity I see how a spinal Injury has life changing effects for spinal injured people and their families.

The SIA is the leading national charity for spinal cord injured people. It is unique in that they are a user led organisation; their elected Trustees are all spinal cord injured.

Their mission is to support people (including their family and friends) affected by spinal cord injury and to advise, educate and campaign on all its aspects. They promote and encourage spinal cord injured people to fully participate in society by taking back control of their lives.  They put great emphasis on their members leading a full and independent life, which is reflected in their motto

"because life needen't stop when you're paralysed".

David Weir being a prime example.

I look forward to completing my first marathon and raising money for a great cause along the way.

Thank you very much for your support.  I won’t let the team down.
