Charity

Scoliosis Campaign Fund
Scoliosis Campaign Fund is a joint fundraising venture between British Scoliosis Research Foundation, who fund research into the causes and treatment of scoliosis and Scoliosis Association (UK), a patient support charity. The two organisations have worked closely for several years and became officially affiliated in November, 2006. All money raised from the activities is divided equally between the two charities. Every penny SCF raises goes towards helping to support people with the condition as well as funding research into the causes and treatment of scoliosis. By supporting SCF, you're helping people with scoliosis now and in the future! We have some fantastic fundraising events which can all be seen on our new, updated website. So whether it's a run, cycle ride, bake sale, or show, we hope to see you at an SCF event soon! Thank you so much for your support.

London 10K & 9 Day Great Wall of China Trek!

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

I was diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis when I was 14.

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, in which the spinal column can also twist, pulling the ribcage out of position.

My back before surgery

My scoliosis was considered to be very severe, and as a result, I had to endure a major 10+ hour spinal fusion operation to correct and stablise my scoliosis when I was 24 years old.

Scoliosis Xrays

My spine was straightened with two titanium rods and 20 something screws and fused in a straighter position. The surgery itself took 11 hours, I was in hospital for two weeks, off work for about 6 months and it took me around a year to fully recover.

It was a major operation and recovery was painful and one of the toughest experiences I have ever been through.

After the surgery, I had to learn all the basics all over again. I couldn’t even sit up by myself to start with and I had to learn to walk all over again.

My scoliosis doesn’t stop me from living my life and even though it causes me pain and discomfort, it doesn’t have to bring me down.

In fact, it has made me more determined to succeed and I have achieved so much since having the surgery that I never thought would be possible.

Scoliosis

Now, 7 years later, I am doing two things that I never thought I'd be able to do post scoliosis surgery in a bid to raise awareness and money for the Scoliosis Campaign Fund.

British London 10K

On 9th July, I am running 10K for scoliosis in the iconic London British 10k! This will involve a flat, fast 10K through London's most famed sites.

Great Wall of China 9 Day Trek

Great Wall of China

In October, I will be taking on a massive challenge with a 9 day trek on the Great Wall of China. This will involve 9 days of hiking on challenging and uphill terrain.

Through these activities, I want to raise awareness of scoliosis. But not only that, I want to inspire others who are suffering with the condition and show that having scoliosis doesn't have to stop you from achieveing your dreams.

The Scoliosis Campaign Fund raises money to support people with scoliosis and their families, and fund research into finding the causes of scoliosis and treatments to improve quality of life for patients.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Thanks so much for reading,
