The Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia Support Group
We help people affected by Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), their families and carers by the provision of support, information and advice. We can provide grants to help members with the purchase of mobility aids and provide funding for research into this very rare condition.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

In 2016 both my husband (Neil) and Son (Finnegan) were diagnosed with a rare neuroligical condition called HSP (Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia).  It affects the nerves sending signals from the brain to limbs causing muscle spasms, cramps and worst case can lead to paralysis.  Unfortunately mother nature has pulled rank and there is currently no cure for the condition.  Therapies and medication can help ease symptoms but it's different to each person how and when symptoms present - there isn't a one size fits all solution.

The condition isn't very well known, especially in the UK and in many cases is mis-diagnosed.  The hereditary spastic paraplegia support group help people affected by HSP and their families with support, information and advice.  They provide grants to help members with the purchase of mobility aids and providing funding for research into this very rare condition.

To raise awareness of the condition and raise funds for the HSP support group I will be walking 1000 miles in 2017.  This will be "boots on" out for a walk walking and not just totting up my every day steps.  I will be tracking my progress and donating myself 50p for every mile I complete.

The challenge will be over the next 12 months and I'm asking that between now and the end of the year if you could please make a donation - you can keep track of my progress on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MBwalking/ and instagram @mbrookes82 #mbwalking1000
