Charities

Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK is the charity for people with diabetes, their family, friends and carers. Our mission is to improve the lives of people with the condition and work towards a future without diabetes. Diabetes UK is one of the largest patient organisations in Europe. We stand up for the interests of people with diabetes by campaigning for better standards of care. We are the largest funder in the UK of research into better treatments for diabetes and the search for a cure. We provide practical support and information and safety net services to help people manage their diabetes. For more information please visit our website: www.diabetes.org.uk.
The PSP Association
The PSP Association is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Cortico Basal Degeneration. We provide help and support for those affected by PSP whilst funding research into the causes, treatments and eventual cure for the disease.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to visit this page.  A team of seven of us from the Metropolitan Traffic Department in London are cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats and we're going to do it in 10 days!  Yes, 10 days!!  We'll be cycling, on average, about 100 miles a day.  Please sponsor us through this website and rest assured all the money here will be going towards the PSPA and Diabetes UK.  We will also be collecting any cash donations to go to the Traffic Patrol Orphans Fund.

The team is headed by Superintendent John Hollands, Chief Inspector Nicholas Palmer, Sergeant Mark O'Carroll, and PC's Robert Eastick, Neil Hare and Dave Pendleton.

We'll be starting on 18th April 2012 at Lands End and we hope to finish at John O'Groats on Saturday 29th April, just in time to fully recover before the Olympics get here!

We'd all like to say a special thanks to our 'supporters' who's details will appear below!  We'll also get some photos up soon!

Not long now before the 'off' and I think it's fair to say we're all a bit nervous!!

Here's a bit about the charities:-

PSP -

PSPA supports those affected by Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Cortico Basal Degeneration, and funds vital research into the causes, treatment and eventual cure of this disease.

PSP:

§  Affects over 10,000 people in the UK

§  Is terminal; life expectancy is on average 7 years

§  Leaves those affected unable to walk, talk, eat or see

The PSP Association:

§  Provides help and support for those living with PSP and CBD

§  Funds research into the cause, treatments and eventually a cure for PSP

§  Relies on voluntary donations

PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease estimated to affect over 10,000 people in the UK at any one time.  PSP has no gender or race boundaries, although it is unusual for diagnosis below 40. Those affected by PSP will be robbed of the basic every day functions that most of us take for granted. Over time, the disease will affect sight, movement and mobility, speech and the swallowing reflex. In most cases the mind remains unaffected, trapped in a body that will no longer function. Life expectancy from onset of symptoms to death varies from person to person but is an average of 7 years.

Despite this, much can be done to improve the quality of life of those living with PSP, and to support their families and carers during this difficult time.

The PSP Association provides a range of services to ensure people living with PSP have access to the information, care and support that is vital to quality of life.

The PSP Association works with medical, health and social care professionals raising awareness of PSP and providing education, training and advice on a diverse range of subjects, from better diagnosis to managing the disease from onset to death. We also work to influence decision makers at national and local levels to raise awareness and improve services.
