SOS Children
SOS Children is the world’s largest orphan and abandoned children’s charity. Our vision is “a loving home for every child”. Supporters worldwide enable us to provide a new family and home for more than 78,000 children in 500 unique Children’s Villages in 124 countries. Once children are taken into an SOS Children’s Village we give them the love and security of an SOS mother who cares for them as they grow up. We provide our children with education, health care and support as they grow into independent adulthood. Vocational training schemes give further opportunity to the young people in our care. Our Family Strengthening Programmes extend our work into the wider community and as a result we reach many hundreds of thousands more children. Makalu 2010

Fundraisers:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Makalu

Hi, thank you for visiting our page.  In tandem with attempting a first British ascent of Makalu via the South East Ridge we are also trying to raise money for our nominated charity - SOS Children's Villages.

Makalu stands an impressive 8463 metres in height and therefore we have set our fundraising target at the same level.  With your help we hope to raise £8463 - all of which will go towards a project in Nepal.

In 2008 through our fundraising for SOS Children, we were able to fund the purchase of a motorbike for SOS Children's Village Sanothimi, in Nepal, to enable field visits by our community outreach workers. Our Nepalese colleagues provide bespoke programmes of assistance for vulnerable families in the wider localityallocate 100% of a subsequent donation generated by your expedition to our work in Nepal of the village, such as food parcels, school scholarships, income generation and mobilisation of family-carer support by fellow community members. The aim is for poverty-stricken families to be strengthened and to become self-sustainable over time, which lessens the risk of child abandonment.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to our nominated charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
