The Body Shop Foundation - The Body Shop Foundation is a charitable company, limited by guarantee, who operate closely with The Body Shop International. We give money to innovative, global projects working for social and environmental change. Since 1989, we've funded over 2,500 projects around the world - donating just over £19 million. We look for groups with enthusiam, energy and drive who work at grassroots level. These projects - however dynamic - sometimes get overlooked. Sometimes - because of the unfamilar or pioneering nature of their work - conventional funding is hard for them to recieve. To us though, being different and daring deserves to be recognised. We look for progressive charities and groups which fall within our remit and invite them to apply for funds. We are so proud of the groups we support and the difference they make around the world. They are the reason we continue to love the work we do and the way we do it.

The Sumatra Jungle Trek

Our challenges just got tougher.... Sumatra Jungle Trek 2013. Their greatest threat is man and the loss of their habitat. We share their planet and approx. 97% of their DNA but with the palm oil industry smashing through the rainforest, it could be the first great ape species to become extinct. April 2013 sees a committed, passionate group tackle a jungle trek deep into the Gunung Leuser National Park, the home of the Sumatran Orangutan. Uncomfortable, exhausting, draining: this challenge will push our trekkers to their limits. Their discomfort and struggle with raise awareness for the plight of orangutans and the great apes, helping them in their quest for survival. Please give whatever you can. It all adds up and makes a huge difference. Tomorrow is too late for the orangutans - don't delay, help today.

Go 'ape' at the fact that the Orangutans could be the first great ape to become extinct, due to man and the destruction of their habitat by the palm oil industry.
My name is Marjolein and I'm aiming to raise £3600 for The Body Shop Foundation to join their Orangutan Challenge, trekking for the survival of the great apes across Sumatra. 
The Orangutan needs our help now more than ever as their numbers have fallen by between 30% and 50% within the last decade. In the last 20 years an estimated 80% of suitable orangutan habitat has disapeared, and only around 2% of what reamins is legally protected. Despite legal protection in Sumatra and Borneo, orangutans are often killed for their meat or caught for the pet trade. Between 1994 and 2003, a total of 559 orangutans and gibbons were found on sale in 35 wildlife markets across the islands of Java and Bali..
It's time to stand up for the Orangutans before it's too late... How can you help? By donating money you can make a huge difference!
- £ 1 will pay for the food for an orphaned orangutan for one day 
- £ 10 will buy field assistant supplies
- £ 200 will pay for one orangutan to be moved from a destroyed forest to a protected area
And really every donating is welcome! You can also help in an other way. By simply sharing this page on facebook. Make your friends & family aware about this cause or even send it out to all your collegues!
