Martin House
Martin House Children's Hospice provides care for children and young people with progressive, life-limiting illnesses and offers support to their families across Yorkshire. We need to raise £4.9 million annually to run the service we provide at our purpose built hospice in Boston Spa near Wetherby. The aim of Martin House is to provide family-led care in a home from home environment. It is a place where children, young people and their families can stay from time to time along their journey and find support, rest and practical help. Thank you for thinking about Martin House. Your support is much appreciated. Every penny counts!
Epilepsy Research UK
Epilepsy Research UK is the only national charity exclusively dedicated to research into epilepsy. Over 600,000 people in the UK have a diagnosis of epilepsy, that is 1 in 103. Epilepsy can take many forms from a momentary blank spell to a dramatic major convulsion. Even with control of seizures, the quality of life for people with epilepsy can be unpredictable and restricted. However, new research offers the very real possibility of developing therapies that could prevent these deaths and transform the lives of those affected. Developments in drug therapy and medical scanning, along with major breakthroughs in the study of the human genome, mean that great progress has been made in understanding the causes of epilepsy in recent years. Even greater advances will be made in the coming years and our research will be at the forefront of developments to control, and perhaps even cure, epilepsy. By supporting Epilepsy Research UK you could make a real difference to the lives of thousands of people.
Heart Research UK
At Heart Research UK we fund medical research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. Around two million people in the UK are living with heart disease. However, thanks to improved treatment and techniques funded by Heart Research UK, more people are surviving and living happier, healthier, longer lives. In 2007, we celebrated our 40th anniversary and over the last four decades we have funded many pioneering projects at the cutting edge of science. We paid for six of the eight first successful UK heart transplants, carried out by Sir Terence English at Papworth Hospital. Life saving technology that we now take for granted, such as heart valves, angioplasty and more recently, amazing artificial heart pumps, would not have been developed without our help. We would prefer for there to be no heart problems in the first place so we promote the benefits of living a healthy heart lifestyle. Our Healthy Heart grants, school and community talks and Healthy Heart workplace schemes reach communities and give them the knowledge and advice they need to take care of their heart health. The Candlelighters Trust
Yorkshire's pre-eminent childhood cancer charity supporting children, teenagers and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, lives are turned upside down in an instrant. Not just for the child but for their parents, siblings and family friends. Priorities change and everyday concerns sudddenly seem trivial. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, physically emotionally and even financially. Helping and supporting those children and their families throughout that journey is why Candlelighters was formed more than 40 years ago and it is why we are still here today. The charity was founded and is still run by parents of children who have or have had cancer or leukaemia and the medical staff who treat them. This means that we understand the trauma and the turmoil of that diagnosis and how the support and care needed may differ from family to family. Whether it be through the support of our friendly staff and experienced counsellors, that "home away from home" environment we nurture on the ward in Leeds, or the vital research into new treatments, we are here to help. go to

Thanks for visiting my page

Firstly, that is not me in the picture, you can tell that it is not me because my belly would certainly be more prominent if I wore tight clothing like that!

However I may be doing alot of carrying my bike this time around.

Although, I am reliably informed that the route is fairly tame as far as hills go, there are a couple of nasty hills to climb, one being Terrington Bank (which I am guessing will be similar to Garrowby Hill on the way to the east coast)  - never been there, probably never will again.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities.

Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

If you are eligible please do not forget to claim your own tax back if you are a 40% (or 50%) taxpayer. You do this on your tax return.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
