Charity
Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the six young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. We build specialist units within NHS hospitals bringing young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them. We want every young person with cancer to have access to this specialist support, no matter where they live. Traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients at the end of their lives, young people can feel extremely isolated during treatment, some never meeting another young person with cancer. Being treated alongside others their own age can make a huge difference to their whole experience. Teenage Cancer Trust also educates young people and health professionals about cancer to ensure a swift diagnosis and referral to specialist support. Cancer in young people is rare but we want young people to know the common signs and symptoms so they can seek medical advice if they are worried. We rely solely on donations to fund our vital work. You can help transform the lives of young people with cancer. Visit www.teenagecancertrust.org to find out how.

Mark Stern - Marathon Man!
On 21st February 2006 I travelled to Madrid as an optimistic Arsenal fan going to witness, what turned out to be, one of our greatest European victories en route to the Champions League final (the less said about that the better).
A slip on the greasy cobbled streets of the Spanish capital meant spending a lonely night in a foreign hospital, rather than the Bernabaeu. X-rays and scans revealed not only a fracture of the left distal femur, but a worrying message from Spanish doctor Felix, instructing us get home and see a specialist immediately.
Back in England specialists told us the bad news, that they had found a cancerous tumour in my knee - a rare occurance.
Being placed on a specialist Teenage Cancer Trust ward meant that the treatment of my Non-Hodgkins Lymphona was as comfortable as it could be. 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 5 months later, I was given the all-clear.
Fast forward 9 years, and here I am. Against all the odds, ready to take on the challenge of a lifetime (against my mothers wishes)! I have always said if I am ever to run the London Marathon, I'd want to do it for the Teenage Cancer Trust, for all the help and support they offered me and my family during our time in need.
So when offered a place I simply couldn't say no.
Thank you for listening to a brief outline of my story! All donations are hugely appreciated by me, my family and the charity.
