Bishop Simeon Trust
The Bishop Simeon Trust is a UK registered international development charity, operating in South Africa and founded in 1989. We are rooted in the values of Bishop Simeon Nkoane and others like him who stood up to the brutal apartheid regime and helped lay the foundations for a democratic South Africa. We support orphans and vulnerable children in some of South Africa's most marginalised communities to access and remain in education; we work with local groups to counter the effects of HIV/AIDS and poverty and to build stronger communities. Alongside our South African partners we deliver grass roots services in the most effective and sustainable way possible.

The Race Against Time 2010

Martin Thomas

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

UPDATE 21/05/10

Today, thanks to the amazing generosity of my friends, I passed the £2000 fundraising target for the 2010 TRAT ride, which is fantastic news.

Thank you so much to those who have parted with some of their hard-earned cash. There's still plenty of time to give, of course, if you've been meaning to but haven't quite got around to it.

Don't be embarrassed...I know how it is...

I've uploaded our route onto the site for anyone interested in knowing exactly where we'll be during those fateful six days.

Original message

I'd be hugely grateful if you could dig as deep as you can to support me in this year's Race Against Time, about which you can read more further down this page.

The ride is going to be a massive challenge - way beyond anything I've attempted before - but the fund-raising effort is also very tough. And it's asking a lot from you, my friends and family and any random strangers I've managed to persuade to visit this page. But helping to fight the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS in South Africa is such a worthy cause I'm hoping you'll find it in yourselves to support me - anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

One of the more sobering statistics I've seen about the scale of the challenge facing AIDS work in the region is that, during the six days we'll be riding, 35,000 people in sub-Saharan Africa will die of AIDS.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Finally, if you're interested in keeping tabs on my training progress and hearing about how things went after the event, please visit my blog.
