NGAG - Mary on the Green
Mary Wollstonecraft was: The first woman to say in English that women and men should have equal rights. She advocated votes for women 100 years before the suffragettes. An Educational Pioneer and the first woman to argue for education for girls. The author of 'A Vindication of the Rights of Woman' in 1792. A radical thinker who debated with Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin One of the first female war correspondents and travel writers. The mother of Mary Shelley, author of 'Frankenstein'. Amazingly, no substantial memorial to Mary Wollstonecraft exists anywhere in the world. Newington Green Action Group has initiated the Mary on the Green fundraising to recognize her achievements by erecting a sculptural memorial to Mary Wollstonecraft on Newington Green where she ran a school for girls.

Mary on the Green celebrates one of history’s most neglected icons, Mary Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft challenged society and changed the world. Her life sends a message of encouragement to young people in a world divided along gender and class lines.

The goals of the campaign are to erect a memorial as a symbol of her legacy in a public work of art and to promote her ideas and contribution to equality, diversity and human rights in education.

In order to keep her vision of a better world alive our kind supporters at Holman Fenwick Willan are raising funds by partaking in the British 10K London Run this July.

Our talented runners are Alex Stoughton, Elinor Crich, Isabel Phillips, Katherine Noble and Nigel Wick.

We thank you for helping us in getting one step closer to a less segregated world.
