Thanks for taking the time to visit my Virgin Money Giving page and helping me support Prostate Cancer Research by running in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon on April 22, 2012.
My aim is to raise as much money as possible for Prostate Cancer Research, as my husband was stricken with Prostate Cancer in 2010. After surgery, chemo and radio therapy, he has been told he is now in remission, and his next check up will be in six months.
When this happened to my husband, we were obviously devastated, as we have 2 children, now aged 12 and 15, but we now have a future that is looking better as time goes by.
I discovered that Prostate Cancer is one of the most serious forms of cancer in men, as it often goes undiagnosed, often until it is too late. Also since my husband’s diagnoses, he has been very forthright in talking about it to his friends and colleagues, and telling them that it is important that they get regularly checked by their GP. We have also been reminded of this as other friends have been recently diagnosed, and although each person is different, we hope that it was perhaps the experiences of my husband that prompted these friends to be checked.
The more I have learned, then the more I wish to help in raising money and more importantly, awareness of the problems of prostate cancer, and as I lead a very hectic life, I still ensure I work out and keep fit at my Local YMCA in central London on a daily basis.
I have been involved in running 5k and 10k races, particularly for Breast Cancer, for many years, and this was also brought home to me as I myself had a scare approximately 2 years ago with a lump in my breast, luckily benign, and I now want to stretch myself to the next level.
I sincerely wait in great anticipation of I hope a positive outcome to this personal effort.

Muchas gracias por visitar mi página de Virgin Money Giving y ayudarme a apoyar a la organización Prostate Cancer Research (Investigación del Cáncer de Próstata) a través del Maratón de Londres 2012, el próximo 22 de abril de 2012.
Mi meta es recaudar la mayor cantidad posible de fondos para Prostate Cancer Research, pues mi marido fue diagnosticado con cáncer de próstata en 2010. Tras recibir cirugía, quimio y radioterapia, se encuentra recuperado temporalmente y su próxima revisión será en seis meses.
Obviamente, cuando esto le sucedió a mi marido, nos devastó: tenemos dos hijos, ahora de 12 y 15. Sin embargo, conforme pasa el tiempo, nuestro futuro se ve más brillante.
Descubrí que el cáncer de próstata es una de las manifestaciones más serias de la enfermedad en hombres, y muchas veces se detecta cuando ya es demasiado tarde. Desde que mi esposo fue diagnosticado, ha sido muy abierto sobre el tema con amigos y compañeros de trabajo, insistiendo en la importancia de recibir revisiones médicas periódicamente. Hemos recibido recordatorios de esto recientemente, pues algunos amigos han sido diagnosticados con la enfermedad y, aunque cada quien es diferente, nos gusta pensar que quizá fue la experiencia de mi marido lo que los convenció de acudir al médico para revisarse.
Mientras más aprendo, más quiero ayudar a recaudar fondos y, lo más importante, hacer conciencia sobre el cáncer de próstata. A pesar de llevar una vida ajetreada, me aseguro de hacer ejercicio diariamente en mi gimnasio local en Londres para mantenerme en forma. Por muchos años, he corrido carreras de 5 y 10 km, particularmente en pro de la investigación del cáncer de mama, del cual yo misma sufrí una amenaza hace dos años aproximadamente: tuve un tumor que afortunadamente resultó ser benigno.
¡Ahora quiero llegar al siguiente nivel! Estoy muy entusiasmada y tengo muchas esperanzas en lo que resultará de este gran esfuerzo personal. Donar a través de Virgin Money Giving es muy fácil, ¡así que por favor apóyame ahora!
