The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Help us transform young peoples lives! The Duke of Edinburgh's Award supports around 275,000 people aged 14-25 from all backgrounds every year. We inspire, guide and support young people to face life's challenges, and we recognise their acheivements. We give young people of every background the opportunity to succeed. We support over 30,000 excluded and vulnerable young people every year. Our ethos is to enable every young person of every background to take part in our programme and succeed, regardless of their barriers. We also support about 50,000 volunteers who instil a sense of adventure and encourage young people through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Through the DofE programme young people learn new skills, take part in sport, volunteer in their communities and experience the challenge and adventure of an expedition. Together we have a lasting impact on young people's behaviour, skills and life chances. Our programme enables young people to develop through personal experience, by inspiring them to spend up to two years volunteering, learning a skill, getting fit and undertaking an expedition. The result is the worlds leading achievement award for young people, recognised by employers and universities alike. Thank you for supporting the thousands of young people doing their DofE.

My name is Mike Cross and I am a Barristers' Clerk at 15 New Bridge Street Chambers.

For many years I have been involved in and around the sport of outdoor swimming and have completed a number of long distance swims. However this swim is a little different. This time my aim is to swim from England to France and then back again!

How long this will take could vary from between 25 to 35 hours depending on tides and weather conditions. As mad as this sounds it is all for a good cause!

Members of 15 New Bridge Street undertake a large number of criminal cases every year, many of which involve young people under the age of 24. Therefore we realise that many thousands of young people in the UK today are failing to achieve their potential and need a second chance.

Youth charity The Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award inspires over 275,000 young people per year to develop skills, fitness, compassion and initiative, and gives young people of every background the opportunity to succeed. It relies on donations and needs to raise over £100,000 per week to continue its vital work.

15 New Bridge Steet is proud to be supporting the work of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in assisting the rehabilitation of young offenders through its Aspire project, making the benefits of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award available to young people within the secure estate and upon release.
