Lighthouse Women's Aid
Lighthouse Women’s Aid is a charitable organisation providing emotional support to women and their children experiencing abuse in their personal or family relationships. We offer temporary accommodation in safe and supportive refuges and provide services in the community where women and their children can recover from the traumatic effects of domestic violence and make informed choices about how to rebuild their lives.

My page:

Hi, and thanks for visiting my page. I hope it will inspire and amuse you.

As usual, I ask that you focus on the good cause rather than the actual physical demands and great personal danger to myself - I say this with tongue firmly in cheek because to encourage you to donate I am going for a swim... I'm going to swim a mile in the Great East Swim event at Alton Water, my local reservoir.

To prepare, I have been swimming every week, been on a gruelling spring training session for a week in Ibiza (!) and have been cycling around the scene of the challenge every Saturday morning. If there is a peak of physical fitness ... I am in the trough.

Please don't fear for my well-being - I will be wearing a full wetsuit (it's mandatory) which I have managed to get into once and which makes me look so much like a licorice allsort I should really enter as Bertie Bassett!

For this charity challenge I wanted to find another deserving cause that was in my local area of Ipswich and, through some networking activities, I was introduced to Lighthouse Women's Aid. They support and empower women and children who have suffered or are at risk of suffering from domestic abuse and violence.

They are very much about support not rescue although they do provide a refuge for those that need it. In addition to dealing with around 150 referrals from the Police per month, LWA also present at secondary schools helping young people understand about healthy relationships and how to keep themselves safe under the title of "Expect Respect".

Lighthouse Women's Aid have been in Suffolk for 40 years, they need around £1 million per year which comes from the government, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Lottery but they need your help too. Please support me and give what you can to help and support the LWA volunteers and, of course, all the women and children who benefit. By the way, the similarity in the name of the charity and my business are purely coincidental.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
