Bowel Cancer UK - Bowel Cancer UK is a national charity with offices in England and Scotland. The charity aims to save lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice. More than 38,600 men and women are diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK every year and more than 16,250 people die from the disease annually. Early diagnosis of bowel cancer in the UK is a problem because people either find it uncomfortable to discuss the symptoms of the disease or simply do not know what they are. Survival rates in the UK are amongst the lowest in Europe, with 15 percent more patients being diagnosed at a later stage of the disease compared with most other European countries. This is why Bowel Cancer UK’s work, to encourage people to recognise the symptoms of the disease and to act on their concerns so that they have the best chance of survival, is so important.

2012 Greater Manchester Marathon

29 April 2012

After a 10 year absence Greater Manchester has a new marathon, the Greater Manchester Marathon. A fast, flat, traffic free course taking in landmarks such as Old Trafford cricket and football grounds, Salford Quays, Imperial War Museum, Dunham Massey as well as many local community centres that will be full of thousands of cheering spectators. So I'm running my first marathon - the 2012 Greater Manchester Marathon. It's the first marathon in Manchester for 10 years, and I'm raising money for a great charity - Bowel Cancer UK.

Training's going pretty well so far, but it would be a great boost for me if you could spare a few pennies to sponsor me. I'd like to raise as much money as possible - I've set a pretty ambitious target, so all help received to reach the target is very much appreciated.

I'll update this page with photos of my sweaty, stumbling, shaking mess to encourage you to donate!
