Friends Of Urambo and Mwanhala (FUM)
The Friends of Urambo & Mwanhala (FUM) has been supporting rural villages in the Tabora region of Tanzania for over 50 years. Water is a significant and ongoing problem for much of Tabora Region, and climate change is making it worse. Good water is essential for good health and economic wellbeing. Deep boreholes are the only reliable source of water, each costing £12,000. Our Golden Jubilee Appeal aims to raise £50,000 initially to provide boreholes for our four most needy villages.

Hi, thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I was born in East Africa and my family has a longstanding connection with the Friends of Urambo and Mwanhala (FUM), a charity that for over 50 years has supported rural villages in Tabora Region of Tanzania.

My sister Joanna is currently spending four months there doing voluntary work, first teaching at a school and then in an orphan centre.

We both attended Cranbrook School which for over 30 years has had an active link with Tanzania  www.fum.org.uk/cranbrook

There are many aspects of Tanzania that are excellent but sadly the universal availability of clean water is not one of them. Clean water is essential for people's health and economic wellbeing so the lack of it really does affect their quality of life there.

Rural life often involves walking a mile or two with containers to collect water each day, and then it's often not very clean water. Having access to good water via a pump makes life a whole lot better for them and their families, such as those at Isagenhe village.

In September my father (Treasurer of FUM) will be re-visiting the village at Maboha with the local water engineer to establish the best way for FUM to improve their water supply.

I do hope that you can sponsor me and help FUM improve life for the Maboha villagers, as it did for those at Isagenhe.
