Parkinson's UK
Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson's. Because we're here, no one has to face Parkinson's alone. We bring people with Parkinson's, their carers and families together via our network of local groups, our website and free confidential helpline. Specialist nurses, our supporters and staff provide information on every aspect of Parkinson's. As the UK's Parkinson's support and research charity we're leading the work to find a cure, and we're closer than ever. We also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services. Our work is totally dependant on donations. Help us to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.

GOING NORTH by Bike in August 2017

Nigel Hamilton

My page:

Like many other people who have been given a Parkinson’s diagnosis, I have gradually become more aware of the variety of ways, both physical and mental, in which this disease (for which there is currently no cure) affects us. The condition was first identified 200 years ago by Dr James Parkinson, in his “Essay on the Shaking Palsy”.  It can strike people at any age and the numbers are increasing all the time as life expectancy improves.

Planning a 350 mile cycle ride this summer has given Debbie and me a challenge which we think we will enjoy and which we hope will make a contribution to providing support to people living with Parkinson’s and to research at Oxford University’s Parkinson’s Disease Centre.  Our ride will take us through some beautiful countryside and also into cities, towns and villages. We will be using national cycle routes wherever possible and staying wherever the route leads us, averaging 25 miles a day. We will be riding along quiet roads and also canal towpaths, disused railways and ancient tracks…

To follow our progress along the way, go to our blog at: .

As we are now getting nearer to the date on which we set off, we want to say a huge thank thank you to all the people who have already sponsored us, giving us such a great start to our 350 mile challenge. We hope to thank people personally but won't be able to do that while we are on the road or when there is an anonymous donation.

We're really looking forward to setting off on 17th! Thank you for supporting us.

Nigel and Debbie
