A Rake's Progress

Thanks for looking in. I'm running the Virgin London Marathon this year at the ripe old age of 43, in support of Quit, the charity that helps people who want to stop smoking.

I started running when I was 19, and have run on and off ever since, but I've never run a proper road marathon before, and they don't come bigger than the London. I'm very excited and proud to be taking part this year, and I hope I'll be able to do it justice.

For those of you that care about these things, I'm aiming to run the race in under four hours. As of the beginning of April, my training is up to 18 miles (in one go). I'll be tweeting about my progress and you can follow me on:

www.twitter.com/sharkstar

I'm also intermittently updating a training blog:

It would be great if you could help me reach my fund-raising target for my sponsors. My job has brought me into contact with the folks at Quit over the past year, and they do a fantastic job helping people to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle. They run a youth programme called Quit Because, aiming to help young people all ages make informed choices about tobacco use through lively and interactive presentations in schools and youth clubs. The Youth Presenters also offer support and advice to young people wanting to quit smoking. To date, presenters for QUIT Because have reached more than 1 million 8-18 year olds.

Quit Because desperately need more youth presenters across the UK, and your donation will help their youth programme to reach even more young people.

Any donation, small or large, will be very gratefully received.

About Virgin Money Giving: Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
