WaterAid
WaterAid is an international charity. Our mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. For a gift of just £15 WaterAid can enable one person in Africa or Asia access to these basic services.

£1 IN A £BILLION FOR WATER AID

Fundraiser:
brian gilmore

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ONEINABILLIONFORWATERAID

hi, thanks for visiting this page.

please donate £1 for water aid here.  the intention is to have 1 billion people donate £1 each to reach a target of £1 billion in one year for water aid. (you can find out more about them by clicking on the 'water aid' logo to the left or by watching the short video below this text.)

please only donate £1. (no more, no less.)  this way no one experiences the 'pressure' to match the amount of the donation of someone they know or a recent donation.  also, no one experiences the 'pressure' of thinking they need to match the donations of others - which may be more than they can afford.

i think almost everyone can afford to give £1. please ensure that the £1 is additional money - above & beyond that which you already give to charity.

i do not know 1 billion people personally.  clearly therefore the success of this rests with you being inspired enough, willing enough and courageous enough to contact (by whatever means) the people you know, work with and interact with to let them know about this.  that is the where the real generosity lies in this endeavour.  it is your generosity that will have this work. please ask them to donate £1 also.

if someone does not have access to a computer/ credit card/ debit card and they want to donate, please do it on their behalf.

i am not running a marathon or doing a triathlon or any of those amazing things.  i am taking on a different type of personal challenge.  i'm giving up that 'it can't be done.'  i'm giving up 'who am i to do this?'   after all - i'm not eddie izzard ;-)  i'm giving up that 'people will think i'm stupid, naive and foolish.'  i'm giving up that 'people will laugh and say 'i told you so' if i don't make the total.'

you could have many reasons for not wanting to donate.  i request that you still give £1 anyway.

you may say these are tough times right now and you need all the money you've got.  please give £1 anyway.

you may already give lots of money to charity and are tired of people asking you for money.  please give £1 anyway.

you may suggest that there are water issues to deal with in your country so why give to a charity which deals with water issues in africa & asia etc.  you may well be right.  please give £1 anyway.

you may well disagree with how this charity deals with this issue.  please give £1 anyway.

you may think that governments could sort this out with a change of heart in a matter of seconds and that it shouldn't fall to citizens to deal with these issues.  you may well be correct.  please give £1 anyway.

you may think that what water aid does not deal with the issue of water trading by countries.  you may consider that if that issue were dealt with the water issues e.g. in africa would be quickly solved.  you may well be right.  please give £1 anyway.

you may not like people who set up (public) charity pages and consider this as self-promotion or a way to enhance their reputation with their friends/ peers - by appearing like a 'do-gooder.'  you may prefer that all charitable giving be done anonymously and with a minimum of fuss. you are probably right about this.  please give £1 anyway.

for some reason you may not like me or for some reason you may not wish me or this to succeed.  please give £1 anyway.

i may well have upset you or annoyed you at some point.  please forgive me.  please give £1 anyway.

please tell others about this and ask them to donate £1.

i appreciate your donation.

brian (gilmore)

ps if you really insist on giving more than £1 then please donate £1 here and then the rest through the normal water aid channels.  please mention '£1 in a £billion for water aid' when you do that.  this will help me track how much is being raised.  ta.  alternatively, you could send a cheque made payable to 'water aid' to the following address: '£1 in a £billion for water aid,' c/o 17 ashton close, rendlesham, woodbridge, suffolk ip12 2gs.

through virgin money giving, your donations will be quickly processed and passed to water aid.  virgin money giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on water aid's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. i'm using them because they have the smallest fees and richard branson is inspiring to me.
