Charity
ORBIS is dedicated to preserving and restoring the sight of the poorest people in the poorest communities across the world. Through innovative programmes and partnerships, ORBIS creates long-term, lasting solutions to prevent and cure blindness worldwide. We provide the tools, training and technology for local doctors and health care professionals to develop solutions to tackle avoidable blindness in their own countries. By building long-term capabilities in eye care institutions, ORBIS supports its partners in providing quality eye care services that are affordable, accessible and ultimately sustainable.

BREWIN & JOHNSON RUN THE LONDON MARATHON
Thanks for taking the time to visit our page!
We are running the London Marathon on the 22nd of April in order to raise £4000+ for ORBIS, a charity committed to preventing avoidable blindness in the poorest communities around the world.
In low income countries, 80% of blind people don’t need to be. Conditions such as cataracts, which are often easily operable in developed countries, can cause a lifetime’s worth of blindness in countries where quality eye care is out of reach. Orbis is committed to providing the tools, training and technology to develop sustainable solutions.
We are truly thankful for all of your donations, the support means a lot to us, it will keep us going through the gruelling training! We have (potentially stupidly) signed up for a number of half marathons in the build up to the 22nd April. Between us we are running Watford, Bath, Eastbourne and Reading. We also have some other interesting events lined up including a 24 hour relay race from London to Cardiff!
If you are eligible to claim gift aid, do please select this, as it adds extra funds for the charity.
Finally, if you are in London on the day, please turn out to cheer us on! We will need all the support we can get!
Truly many thanks!

UPDATE: 18/01/2012
We have decided to up the challenge with a couple more events!
13/14th April - Andy is running in a 12-Man Relay Team from London to Cardiff (160 Miles) in 24 hours. I am the first reserve so hopefully I'll get a place in the team too... More details of the challenge are available on http://www.londoncardiff24.co.uk/raceoverview.html
6th May - We will both be running the alluringly beautiful yet hilly Neolithic Cross-Country Marathon from Avebury to Stonehenge.
In the coming weeks leading up to the events we will be posting updates of how were getting on at https://www.facebook.com/ORBISUK along with the other Team ORBIS runners. This is also a great place to see where your donations are going :)
Please give what you can :) and thanks to all who have already donated!

UPDATE: 31/3/2012
We are running Reading Half tomorrow and are excited to be joined by Andy Marshall who is going to be running for the cause with no training! We are crashing at his humble abode tonight... the foundations for tomorrow have been layed with a mountain of pasta.
The race training did not start well when the Watford half was snowed off in February. However Bath was a perfectly crisp morning and I managed to get a pb :) Johnson has been plagued with a knee injury for 6 weeks and has been unable to train but is back racing tomorrow. Injury has also struck down a Cardiff runner so I will now be joining the team.
Please give what you can :) Just 3 weeks until London!!! Many thanks

UPDATE: 4/4/2012
Reading Half was brilliant, great atmosphere all the way round!!
In other marathon news unfortunately we have had to pull out of the relay team run to Cardiff. Apologies to anyone who has donated on the premise that we would be running in the relay too. We will definitely be running the Neolithic cross country Marathon on the 6th of May, even if either of us get injured in the Marathon and have to pull out we will guarantee to complete a different marathon ASAP.
Cheers again for taking the time to visit our page and please give what you can :)
