Charity

The Daisy Garland
A family-run national children’s charity providing active support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their parents/carers. The charity was set up in memory of our daughter Daisy who tragically died at 6 years of age from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). We provide NHS hospitals with ketogenic dietitians - a medically recognised and accepted way of treating drug resistant epilepsy. This diet is not widely available on the NHS due to lack of funding. We also provide grants for night-time breathing monitors to children with drug-resistant epilepsy.

Hi

My name is Oliver and my little sister is 4 on 14th February 2016.  She was diagnosed with Epilepsy at 4 weeks old and registered blind at 1 year old.  Jade has uncontrolled Epilepsy which means none of the medincines she takes makes her better.

In January 2016 Jade started the Ketogenic diet a high fat low carb diet, so far it is helping Jade and reducing her seizures, it has been very difficult for us all and mum and dad have to measure small amounts of food and drink for Jade to have, she also has to have her blood tested twice a day which I like to help with.

My mum has had a lot of help and advice from Daisy Garland Trust and everyone involved.  The charity also provide much needed Epilepsy Monitors to alert parents to when there child is having a seizure at night.

I am doing a walk from my house to Greenhead Park in Huddersfield which is about 4 miles, which will be very tiring. I am doing this to raise as much money as possible for a charity close to our hearts.
