Mencap is the voice of learning disability. Everything Mencap does is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. We work with people with a learning disability to change laws and services, challenge prejudice and directly support thousands of people to live their lives as they choose. There isn't room to list everything we do here, but there's loads of information on our website

Please note Virgin Money Giving isn't responsible for the content fundraisers post on their pages, but if you see something you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please let us know and we'll look into it.

My page:

Hi, thank you for visiting my page.

I am running the Virgin London Marathon on 21 April.  It will be my first ever marathon and I can’t wait to run it.   I’ll be raising funds for Mencap.

I have a strong personal attachment to Mencap. My uncle Roy was born with severe learning difficulties.  I spent a lot of time with him as a child and my life would have been much the poorer without the contact I had with him.  He taught me much of what I know about compassion, patience and understanding. Although Roy had great difficulty communicating verbally, he had an irresistible and often mischievous charm, and loved and was loved by everyone who knew him. Roy was looked after by nan, with invaluable support from Mencap,  the UK's leading learning disability charity.  Mencap works with people with a learning disability and their families and carers.  It works collaboratively, fighting for equal rights, campaigning for greater opportunities and challenging attitudes and prejudice. It also provides help and support through supported living, supported employment, respite services, organised activities, systemic and individual advocacy, and outreach support.

Thank you any support you can offer. It will be put towards a very good cause and will be very much appreciated.

Very best wishes,

Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on Mencap’s behalf.
