Charities
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for local people with incurable illnesses. Our commitment is to improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to their families and loved ones. Last year we cared for over 2,675 patients and supported over 6,000 family members, including children. 85% of this care was provided in patients homes. All of our care is provided free of charge - the NHS contributes just 22% of our annual running costs. For the rest we are totally reliant on the generosity of the public who support us through many different ways.
Arts 4 Dementia is a new charity bridging a vital gap in dementia care. We believe that people living with dementia in the community - like the rest of us - have the right to enjoy life to the full. Artistic and imaginative responses can remain strong for years after the onset of dementia. Engagement with arts brings benefits both for those with dementia and to their loved ones through sharing such experiences. Working with other agencies, Arts 4 Dementia is spreading the word and facilitating high quality arts events so that families, rather than just having to cope, can help to transform the lives of their loved ones.

Phil Chetwynd's fundraising page
Please dig deep as I am planning to cycle 270 km (170 miles) and swim 5km (3.1 miles) all in the name of Charity.
I am fundraising for St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol and Arts4Dementia in London, who are dbg’s two chosen charities. Both very close to my heart with personal connections. (check out their websites here on the left).
I’m setting off from St. Peters Hospice, after a 2.5km swim at Bannatynes in Bristol and will cycle along the Kennett and Avon canal and Thames, using traffic free cycle tracks and minor roads all the way to Arts4Dementia in central London. Then finishing off the challenge with another 2.5km swim at Bannatynes in London.
My schedule is:
- Thursday 28th June (evening): swim 2,500 metres in Bristol (Bannatynes Redland).
- Friday 29th June (morning): leave St. Peters Hospice HQ and cycle to Thatcham approximately 140Km (87 miles).
- Saturday 30th June (morning): leave Thatcham and arrive at Arts4Dementia HQ approximately 130Km (82 miles).
- Sunday 1st July (morning): swim 2,500 metres in London (Bannatynes Russell Square).
All the money raised will be split equally between the 2 Charities and any contribution you can possibly spare would be so appreciated by both…and me! Please remember to Gift aid it!
As the late and much maligned comedian and former quiz show host often retorted: ‘My friends laughed at me when I told them I wanted to be a comedian ….. They’re not laughing now!’
