Here to provide emotional and practical support - on a one-to-one basis and through community based groups - to anyone affected by cancer including family, friends and carers.
Playlist for Life
Have you ever heard a piece of music and been whisked back to a time, a person or a place in your life? This is the music of your ‘playlist for life.’ Playlist for Life is a powerful tool for people living with dementia because of the unique way music is stored and processed by the brain. We teach people how to find and organise the right music for an individual. Then how to use that playlist to calm or energise a person, recall lost memories and abilities, and restore a sense of self. Our aim is that every person with dementia should have a practical tool they can literally carry with them on their dementia journey, on an iPod or smartphone in their handbag or pocket. A tool that can help them reconnect with loved ones, undertake tasks and structure routines. Our most recent research shows that Playlist for Life improves daily quality of life for both people with dementia and their carers. Other imminent pilots are looking at how Playlist for Life can change the culture of care provision and improve A&E experience. To see playlist for life in action, please watch our video of 'Harry and Margaret' on the frontpage of our website - www.playlistforlife.org.uk. Your donation will help us to: Reach people with dementia and their carers with practical, specialist tools and training so they can use playlist for life.Distribute donated iPods to people living with dementia Set up 'Playlist Hubs' across the UK in partnership with like-minded community groups, providing individual playlisting support by specialist volunteers, awareness-raising and education and support inter-generational work within families and communities. Contribute to the international evidence base in a cutting-edge area of dementia research through academic partnerships. For more information about Playlist for Life, to get involved or to find out how to organise a tea dance and raise funds for training in your community, please get in touch. Thank you for your support.
PEEK, Possibilities for Each and Every Kid
We deliver high quality play, creative and volunteering programmes to over 1000 kids and young people across 30 disadvantaged communities in Glasgow. We improve their life chances by unlocking their potential and journeying alongside them, as they PLAY, CREATE AND THRIVE. PEEK works with some of the most disadvantaged children and young people in Scotland. Many have never been outside Glasgow or to the seaside before, and PEEK is often their only opportunity to have a break away from their problems in a safe, secure and positive environment. The children and young people who attend PEEK have to contend with serious issues in their home and local environment, including but not limited to: Domestic Violence Mental health/Physical health issues Drug/Alcohol abuse Bereavement Terminal illness Poverty For some children, the experiences PEEK offer are just something they can only ever dream of. With your help we can make that dream come true for those children and young people who are living incredibly difficult lives.
