Starlight grants magical wishes to seriously and terminally ill children who are afraid and in pain, and is the only charity providing entertainment, fun and laughter to half a million children in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK.

Ironman Challenge - Bolton 2012
My name is Rachael and I'm a Personal Trainer from Stoke. I have two main reasons for competing in the Bolton Ironman 2012.
Firstly, I have always been deeply inspired by the work of the Starlight Children's Foundation and if I can do anything to help raise money for such an amazing charity, I'm more than happy to!
The Starlight Foundation work with more than 500,000 seriously and terminally ill children in the UK, granting wishes and making young one's dreams come true. What I find truly phenomenal is that 70% of Starlight's children make a FULL recovery - that just sends shivers down my spine! The power of the human spirit is unbelievable - give a person a reason to live and watch what they can achieve!!
For me, childhood should be about playing, love, security and freedom not about hospitals and fighting for your life. If I can do ANYTHING to help the life of a child, all my training will be worth it - it really does pale into insignificance when you look at what these children are going through day in, day out!
It costs between £100 - £8,000 per wish with the average wish costing £3,325. My dream is to raise £3,325.
Secondly, as a Personal Trainer, I teach people every day how to lose weight, increase fitness and to have a positive outlook on life. I very much believe in teaching by example. How can I tell people to eat better, sleep more, train hard despite a busy schedule, stay focussed and keep on track, if I can't do it myself. I don't believe I ever have the right to do that.
It is my hope that by training and competitng in Ironman which I believe is one of the toughest events, that I can inspire and motivate others to explore their own depths and surpass their own expectations of themselves.
I am EXCEPTIONALLY grateful to EVERY single person that makes a donation and I can't thank you enough. If for any reason (injury or illness) I don't make the end of the Ironman, it is my personal promise to you all that I will NEVER stop until I do and anyone who knows me, knows that I mean that!
