In the UK one in every 200 babies is born with some sort of rare chromosome disorder, that’s more than the number affected by Down’s syndrome and cerebral palsy added together, but they’re all different. That’s why most people have never heard of them. Often, rare chromosome disorders pass unnoticed until the baby grows up and becomes the parent of a child with problems. Other times a disorder will cause terrible abnormalities and lead to a diagnosis so rare that doctors cannot give any information about survival chances, let alone the child’s likely future. Imagine how that would feel. This is a devastating, isolating experience for families. Depending upon the specific RCD, affected individuals will have a unique combination of learning disabilities, developmental delay, behavioural issues, mental ill health and or physical disabilities along with congenital and acquired health needs, e.g. major organ and neurological defects and diseases. Some carriers only learn of their RCD when faced with infertility, recurrent miscarriages or the birth of a stillborn or disabled and sick child. Unique support over 6700 families affected by rare chromosome disorders and we need your help to fundraise for us and help us support the ever growing number of newly diagnosed families each day.

Richard and Grahams Peking to Paris adventure

Richard Allen

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Unique.

In June 2016 Richard and Graham, in the 1968 Volvo you can see in the picture, completed the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. This is a 13490 km (8,383 miles) rally across 11 countries in 34 days, 8 of which were spent in the Gobi desert, sleeping in a tent. Not only did we reach our goal in Paris but we also reached and exceeded our fundraising target . A big thank you to everyone who supported us. Next target is £10k - we know we can do it !!

Please support us in our adventure and help us raise more money for a little known but fantastic charity - Unique. Unique is a charity set up to support families with, and raise awareness of, rare chromosone disorders. Chromosones are the building blocks of every child and decide everything about them, there are 46 in every cell of our body, meaning there are billions. Sometimes a break can occur in our Chromosones and lead to a Chromosone disorder. Please move your cursor to the Unique logo on the left to read their statement.

We have a particular reason to be thankful to Unique as they supported us when we learnt we were affected by this in our family.

Thanks again

Richard & Graham
