Charities
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Sheffield RAG are the University of Sheffield Students' Union fundraising committee. Made up of a of volunteer students, we put on fundraising events for the student population and local community. Our aim is to donate 85% of everything raised locally, making a big impact in our community.
Please note Virgin Money Giving isn't responsible for the content fundraisers post on their pages, but if you see something you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please let us know and we'll look into it.
Sheffield2Stuttgart - 1300km Cycle!
Hello there!
Thanks for visiting our Virgin Money Giving page for Cancer Research UK and Engineers Without Borders Sheffield Branch (via Sheffield RAG).
In July this year we're going to be cycling from Sheffield (UK) to Stuttgart (Deutschland). In case you're wondering, that's a distance of over 560 miles (900 kilometers) as the crow flies...
...as the bike rides it will be considerably more!!!
If you're looking for someone to blame for this, then that'd have to be Dave. As an experienced cyclist, it was his harebrained scheme and if anything goes wrong it is entirely his fault. Rob, on the other hand, would fall into the category of 'idiot' for agreeing to such a challenge, having not owned a bike or really cycled anywhere in over 8 years before this January.
Ambitious or just plain daft? It really doesn't make a difference. This trip will undoubtedly be tiring and painful for the both of us.
Therefore, all you can do is save this trip from also being useless and make it into something worthwhile.
Please make this worthwhile.
Rob & Dave
Both Rob & Dave are Mechanical Engineers at The University of Sheffield. Rob, in the final year of his PhD, is researching the effects of cryogenic processing on the performance of materials used in manufacturing, while Dave is a 3rd year undergraduate, due to embark on an industrial placement in Germany from September 2012. Both are also members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, representing young engineers at different levels: Rob as the Young Members' Representative on the IMechE's Trustee Board, and Dave as the Student Liaison Officer for Sheffield University. As if that wasn't enough, both Rob & Dave write for the Developing Engineers blog.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
