Sparks Charity
Sparks is the children’s medical research charity. Our sole remit is to fund research across the whole spectrum of paediatric medicine. Our goal is for ALL babies to be born healthy and stay healthy. Every day 70 babies are born in the UK with a life-threatening condition or an illness that will affect them and their families for life. Sparks aims to reduce this statistic so all children have the chance of a healthy future. Since 1991, we have committed over £26 million into pioneering research projects across a wide spectrum of medical conditions including childhood cancers, cerebral palsy, premature birth and spina bifida. In total, we have funded 265 research projects in more than 80 hospitals and universities across the UK.

My page:

Welcome to my page. The picture on the left is intended to give an idea that I am far more fit than I really am.  The truth is that there was a fire alarm in the gym, and we got scooted outside with some free turkey foil.

I have been very fortunate to have been granted a place at the most traditionally challenging famous race of all time, the London Marathon.  Legend has it that the famous red carpet rolled out to smooth the cobblestones isn't so comfy to run on after 20,000 people have trampled on it in a short wet space of time.

Sparks is an excellent Childrens Charity, nominated to be Deutsche Bank's charity of the year, they brought around the polio vaccine and virtually eradicated the disease from this planet.

They fund research into a range of conditions affecting babies, children and pregnant women. Did you know for example, each year, less than £10 per child in the UK is spent on research into child health. Every day 1 in 30 babies is born in the UK with a condition which may affect them for life. They raise money to fund pioneering medical research to get this to change.

Anyway I believe that all children deserve the best possible start, unfortunately it doesn't always happen, so we as a "civilised" people can, and should try to make that more of a reality.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
