CoppaFeel! Knowing your boobs could save your life. Our mission is to stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer by ensuring that people know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, know what their boobs look and feel like normally, check their boobs regularly throughout their lifetime and have the confidence to seek medical referral when they detect abnormalities.

In November 2012 Laura Cannon was diagnosed with breast cancer aged just 22 years young. This, of course, changed her life forever. But instead of feeling sorry for herself in the face of such adversity Laura vowed to make her journey with the big C as short and as much fun as possible.

Laura Louise & Her Naughty Disease

To share her experiences and raise awareness of this disease in younger women Laura created a brilliant blogsite called “Laura Louise and her naughty disease” demonstrating a unique sense of humour by, for instance, naming the lump in her breast Kenneth and creating an action plan to “Kick Kenneth’s ass!”

Via the site she has offered fashion, nutritional and beauty tips for other young ladies affected by the disease because in Laura’s words: “I try to prove you can still be beautiful whilst fighting the big C!”

The site has been an inspiration for so many young women gaining approximately 260,000 page views to date from all over the world. The site has been positively recognised in illustrious publications including the Daily Mail and other national newspapers, glossy women’s magazines, TV & radio.

Her blog has also won awards. In the Cosmo Blog Awards 2013 she won the highly acclaimed best newcomer award sponsored by retail clothing giant Next beating over 43,000 other entrants in 14 categories.

In November 2013 Laura completed her Radiotherapy and today she is a bright, beautiful and talented 23 year-old who can look forward to life with hope and will continue to inspire others who find themselves faced with challenges similar to the ones Laura has had to face since November 2012.

Team Cannon

Laura’s father, Robin Cannon, has created a fund raising team called “Team Cannon” to raise money and awareness for two Breast Cancer charities.

On Sunday 13th April he will run the London Marathon at the sprightly age of 60 and this will be the first of several high profile fund raising events. Watch this space for more details as and when they become available!

Robin will be joined on the run by Pete Brown (pictured left), whose family are close friends of the Cannon family. Pete was enjoying a glass of wine with Robin when Laura broke the news of her diagnosis and during the conversation that followed Robin & Pete decided to run the London Marathon together to raise money for breast cancer research although, at that time, they had not decided which charities would benefit.

Funds raised will be split 50:50 between the Breakthrough Breast Cancer & Coppafeel charities.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer

The charity’s single-minded ambition is simple and that is to stop women dying from breast cancer achieved by finding new treatments, discovering the causes, promoting early detection and ensuring the best possible care for women diagnosed with the disease.

 Coppafeel

This is Laura’s chosen charity and she has formed a close bond with the charity’s founder member, Kris. She started the charity after being diagnosed aged 23 with an incurable form of the disease because of late diagnosis from doctors.

Their aim is to educate and remind every young person in the UK that checking their boobs could save their life. They continue to create awareness amongst young people enlisting young breast cancer survivors, like Laura, to be a voice and create peer-to-peer awareness with the aim of instilling a new healthy habit that could one day save their life.
