VICTA - VICTA provide support for families with visually impaired children and young people. VICTA was started in 1987 by a group of parents of blind and partially sighted children who came together to discuss their individual problems and found that they could help each other with the day to day problems of looking after a visually impaired child. Since this time, VICTA has developed into a national charity and now supports blind and partially sighted children and young people across the UK. Every year a large number of people raise money for us by running in the London Marathon. This has enabled us to: Provide full support and guidance to parents Make grants for appropriate equipment Make grants for special projects Support other charities who work in our field VICTA also organise meetings, sporting and leisure activities throughout the year so parents and visually impaired children and young people have the opportunity to meet and exchange views. 2012 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.  I am going to be running the 2012 LONDON MARATHON.  For those of you who know me well, you will know this is a massive task for me to undertake!!  Running 26.2 Miles is going to take a lot of hard work and the more support I can get the easier it will be!!

I am running for a fantastic charity called 'VICTA' which stands for Visually Impaired Children Taking Action.  Who undertake absolutely brilliant work in supporting families who are going through such challenging times as they raise their little people who are either blind or partially sighted.  Those of you lucky enough to have children will know how hard it can be to raise a little one at the best of times.  Now think about how life would be bringing up a blind or partially sighted child...Not easy I'm sure!

Having looked into issues surrounding raising a child with such a disability, I realised that there really isn't enough out there to help the children and families cope and get through the hard times.  That is where VICTA do such an outstanding job.  I think their mission statement really sums up exactly what they do for these families:-

To do our best
to enable visually impaired young people to take action
to make the most of their lives

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to VICTA. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.  Please please please dig deep and help me raise as much money as I can for this unbelieveably brilliant charity.
