The Royal Surrey County Hospital Charitable Fund
Our vision is to ensure that The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust can offer the best possible patient care and medical treatment. However, we cannot do this without your help! Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference, as equipment costs vary significantly from just a few hundred pounds to millions of pounds! We deserve a hospital we can continue to be proud of, but together we can be sure we’ll get there.

Thanks for visting my fundraising page, let me explain what I am doing doing and why I am doing it.........Any donations gratefully received :)

When you are close to someone and they sustain life changing injuries then whatever you do you will feel pretty helpless. My niece, Samantha Ashford unfortunately put me in this position back in September 2012 when she was kicked in the face & head by her horse & she sustained life changing injuries which resulted in the right side of her face being totally reconstructed!

Her injuries were life threatening and definitely life changing, she could have been severely disfigured but she was lucky in that she fell into the excellent care of The Royal Surrey County Hospital Maxillofacial Team. Under the guidance of the excellent surgeon Miss Carrie Newlands they saved her life and gave her back a face to be proud of.

Four years of treatment has not been easy for her as together with the physical challenges, medication, operations (14 so far) and pain she has also been dealing with the psychological impact. She chose (if there was a choice) to deal with this through not only reliance on her fabulous family but also through saying thanks to the Maxillofacial unit by raising over £30,000 to help fund further equipment.

Sam still needs support and I decided that I would support her through the final stages of her treatment by running Brighton Marathon and if I can I will complete that epic journey in under four hours. At the same time it only seemed sensible to try and raise some funds in support of the people and unit that have saved and rebuilt her

As a Surrey hospital unit it is especially relevant to anyone living locally that may suffer a facial injury. The Maxillofacial Unit also treat facial & skin cancer, this deadly disease impacts one in three people at some point and their treatments includes the diagnosis and management of facial injuries, head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and infections.

So please can you help me complete the ridiculous running distance of 26 miles by sponsoring me through my just giving page as I know it will help motivate me and also support a great cause
