Twinkle Trust Animal Aid
Twinkle Trust help relieve the suffering of feral cats on the island of Fuerteventura by neutering campaigns and helps to treat sick or injured cats by veterinary care, we also have many cats that are not able to be released due to their health or location issues that we look after. We now work everyday trying to make sure that no cat knowingly suffers.
Only 27 days to go!

Whenever people ask me who is my hero, I always reply  - Raymundo! And its because of Ray (and the other cats like him) that Ryan will be running his first ever marathon for Twinkle Trust in London in 2017.

We were already supporters of Twinkle Trust when I first saw Raymundo on their website news page, He had been picked up following a report to Twinkle Trust that a cat was seen walking like it was drunk living near a very busy recycling yard.
When he was brought in he was in a poor state, covered with scabs from a very bad flea infestation, suffering from bad cat flu which had ruined his eyes to the point he was totally blind in one eye and only had the very slightest vision from the other. On top of this, it became apparent from later X-rays that he had at sometime been shot in the head - which may account for his rather pronounced swagger when he walks.

We became sponsors for Ray to help a little with vet and food bills and followed any posts about him Twinkle put up on their website. I couldn’t stop thinking about this cat though, he was such a fighter I really felt he deserved a forever home for his retirement (he wasn’t a young boy either).
About ten months later Ryan and I went out to Fuerteventura to visit Twinkle Trust and to meet the cats, particularly Ray, just to see if we could maybe offer him a life with us.

Once we met him, I had to have him - he is such a personality - the "Jack Sparrow" of cats - full of charm and, of course, his swagger.

Because he is almost blind we had a problem - we had two other cats that were used to being able to go outside, but Ray would not be safe if he got out near the road and might have difficulty finding his way home at all. So we set about cat proofing our garden and now we walk out into what we call the catio, a cage that runs the length of the garden and has climbing areas for the cats. Now we could offer Ray the home he deserved.

Jenny at Twinkle organised his documentation and his flight to the UK and we finally got our boy home on Valentines day 2014.
We knew he was a fighter and knew he was special, but he is pure JOY, he plays like a thing possessed, he loves to be cuddled and is always there to greet us as soon as we get home. Ray simply loves life and despite everything that life has thrown at him he lives every moment to the full. I think we could all learn something from Ray. I am so grateful to Twinkle Trust for giving him the chance to have this life and for giving us the chance to have him live it with us.

We have been out to Fuerteventura to see Jenny and the Twinkle Cats as often as we can - they work so very hard to neuter, feed and ease the suffering of so many of the island's cats. sadly there are so many of them in need of help, so many more like Raymundo.

Please, if you can help in any way. we would be so grateful to you.
