The Ataxia-Telangiectasia Society - Classic Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) is a condition which strikes at the heart of a family, often with no prior warning. Children born with the A-T gene appear healthy until they are around 2- 3. Soon their balance starts to fail, they become wobbly and need assistance to walk. Many are misdiagnosed as having cerebral palsy and their A-T diagnosis comes much later as their symptoms intensify. While normal children are becoming more independent, A-T suffers need increasing help, many are confined to a wheelchair by the age of 10. By 12 they may need help to eat and their health and immunity are deteriorating. A-T sufferers are particularly prone to developing leukaemia and other cancers. It is quite unusual for a person with classic A-T to live beyond 26yrs of age.

I am fundraising as a personal challenge. My challenge is the "Toughest Footrace on Earth" - the legendary Marathon des Sables.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. My name is Trevor Sanderson. I'm 33 and a Sgt in the Royal Air Force Regiment. During a 2010 tour of Afghanistan a good friend of mine, Stefan Sprawling, received devastating news from home. His 3 year old daughter Brooke had been diagnosed with Ataxia-Telengiectasia (A-T). A-T is a very rare neuro-degenerative incurable disease which gradually breaks down the bodies immune system. Most children are disabled and wheelchair bound by the age of 10 and it is unusual for an A-T sufferer to reach the age of 25. The A-T Society is a small charity supporting children like Brooke and her family. They need our help. Urgent funds must be raised to continue to search for a cure.

In April 2013 I will be competing in the Marathon des Sables (MdS) on behalf of the A-T Society. Dubbed the toughest footrace on earth it is a 6 day 270km Ultra Marathon through the Morrocan Sahara Desert. Stefan and his family face insurmountable challenges in the future so I wanted to do something that most seasoned and veteran runners class as madness! I dearly hope to raise 20,000 (hopefully more) for this amazing cause. Sponsor me and I promise I wont let you down.
