Dreams Come True Charity
Dreams Come True is a national charity which fulfills the dreams of terminally and seriously ill children aged 2-21 years of age. Every child has their own unique dream and making that dream come true for a child not only brightens their life but is a gift of joy and wonderful memories that parents and family will treasure forever. That's what we do at Dreams Come True every day. From specially adapted trykes to swimming with dolphins, meeting a favourite sports hero to a once in a life time holiday in the sun we can make dreams come true with your help. We receive no government or lottery funding and rely on our fund raisers to support our work. 25,000 children move into palliative care every year so please run for us and make more dreams come true.

Please note Virgin Money Giving isn't responsible for the content fundraisers post on their pages, but if you see something you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please let us know and we'll look into it.

My page:

We have recently received the news that we have been dreaming of for almost 9 years!  This is a confirmation of referral and transfer of our son, Luke Carter Guedes to the Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, United Kingdom from his current home - which is a bed on a ward, in a Portuguese Hospital.

Sadly, for reasons out of our control, this is where Luke has had to spend his entire life, until now.

Our son, Luke suffers from a chronic condition called Myotubular Myopathy, which caused his muscle fibers to cease forming during my pregnancy, meaning that Luke has not been able to breathe unaided, swallow, sit without support, and cannot even stand and walk.  We are thankful that this condition has no bearing on his brain and in this respect he is a bright and cheeky boy!  He also has good strength in his arms which enables us to enjoy play, give one another lots of cuddles, and have fun together during the hospital visits we make daily, to spend time with our little boy!

Since our son Luke was born, our aim has been to try to bring him home to Manchester, UK.   Not only do we need our family for close support, but we also want to give Luke the chance to live at home with us and his little brother Sean, for the very first time.  Our move to the UK means we will be able to achieve this and become a whole family at last!  We are so looking forward to the simple pleasures in life, like taking Luke to the park with his brother for the very first time and introducing Luke the big beautiful world outside a hospital ward, which he has never seen before.

But to enable us to safely transfer Luke to Liverpool Hospital in March 2011, we need to hire a private Air Ambulance.  The Air Ambulance Company is fully NHS approved, and has been quoted to us at £16,750.00.  We've already generously been donated £9,000 from a UK charity to help some way towards meeting this huge cost - but we still need to find the additional amount of £7,750 to help bring Luke home.

If you would like to help contribute towards Luke's ambulance repatriation cost, your donation, however small, will be gratefully received.

Dreams Come True, the UK registered charity, are kindly helping us by facilitating the collection of funds for the air ambulance to bring Luke home, and guarantee that every single penny you donate (including gift aid if you are a UK taxpayer) will go directly to help Luke, and nothing else.

Dreams Come True have kindly offered to hold any funds collected, over and above our £7,750 target, to go towards paying for essential equipment Luke will need to live at home.

4/2/2011 - We have received some great news today!  Luke can now be transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, which will be much closer to our new home.

Thank you for your kind generosity and support, which are helping us so much.  Sally and Flavio.
