I did it!! – I had 19 inches chopped off this evening - so hopefully they will get at least two lengths of hair for the wigs. My pony tail will be sent off to the Little Princes Trust in the morning!
It feels really weird but I am so pleased with how it looks and my head feels really light. When I move my head my hair tickles the back of my neck and it swishes as I walk.
Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored me – I think the kids at Charlie’s Day Unit will be very very happy – as I know I am. If there is anyone else who would like to donate – please do so as everything helps.

Hi my name is Sam, I heard about children with cancer getting wigs so they feel more comfortable when their hair falls out. I looked on line to find out more and came across Little Princess Trust. They make wigs for children, from donated hair. For those that know me I have very long hair, in fact I have never had it cut (well not properly – just trimmed). As soon as I found out about donating hair – I decided to have my hair cut and send it off to be made into a wig.
After talking to my parents and telling them what I wanted to do, we spoke to Cath, my hairdresser, to have it cut. My aim is to have 12 – 14 inches to send off. After talking to friends, they said they would sponsor me to have it cut, although a few did say they would sponsor me not to have it cut – so we decided to set this page up to see how much we could raise. We are still sending my hair to the Little Princess Trust but then looked for a local children’s cancer charity to benefit – so we have chosen the Charlie’s Day Unit at Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The Charlie’s Day Unit is a medical assessment unit for local children and young people enabling them to be seen and treated promptly for a variety of medical needs – including chemotherapy (a treatment for cancer – that can make your hair fall out). I was told that the unit sees around 7000 children a year and I would like to improve things like – where kids with cancer wait to be seen – so it is fun and had no bugs (reducing their exposure to unnecessary infections) but also so there are lots of new toys for them to play with to take their mind off what is happening.
