Macmillan Cancer Support
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer. We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604).
National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by Autism. Over half a million people in the UK have autism. Together with their families they make up over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day. Despite this, autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood. Which means that many of these two million people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need. Together, we are going to change this.
Soft Touch Arts Limited
Who we are and what we do: A Leicester based charity, established in 1986, we use arts, media and music activities to inspire and engage young people and help them to develop creative, social and employability skills. Our inclusive way of working helps young people who lack opportunities or have challenges in their lives to participate in positive creative activities. We help them get back on track if things have gone wrong, try new things, build the confidence and resilience to change negative or risky behaviours, and progress to lead more fulfilling lives. This, in turn, has a beneficial effect on their communities. We set up projects and activities to encourage participation in the arts in Leicestershire. We have an experienced team who develop and deliver a wide range of creative projects and activities. Different agencies refer young people to activities at our studios or in local communities. Our work tackles local and national problems like gang culture, anti-social behaviour and unhealthy lifestyles, using creativity to give young people more positive choices in their lives. We work with MPs, police, fire service, schools, youth, health and social services, and local authorities. This gives our work a greater impact: we share ideas and resources which gives value for money for taxpayers and fewer social problems.

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me reach my target. I am so thrilled with the response.

I am leaving the page open so although I have reached my target, I can raise even more money for my chosen charities.

10th June: My hair has now been cut off all 20 inches of it!!! Thank you to everyone who supported me on the day. We also had the draw for the holiday which was won by Kelly Hughes of Josiah Hincks, Leicester. So well done Kelly :)

Hello,

Thank you so much for visiting my page. I am raising money for three charities by having 12 inches cut off my hair. The hair will be donated to a charity making wigs for cancer sufferers.

20 years ago this month my mother died of ovarian cancer. Throughout her life she raised £1000's for her chosen charities. I have dedicated this fundraising to her memory.

Please help me raise money for my three chosen charities. I have been growing my hair for this purpose for some years and don't want to have it cut off for anything less than £1000!

I have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as my mother was cared for by Macmillan nurses and they did a wonderful job.

Soft Touch Arts, a local charity to me, uses arts, media and music activities as a tool to engage with and change the lives of disadvantaged young people - I think my mother would have approved.

My third charity choice, which is close to my heart, is the National Autistic Society who are a huge support to all those on the autistic spectrum and their families.

Once I have raised £1000 I am aiming to have my hair cut at an event to hopefully raise a little more money. There will be more about that as I get near my target.

So please give what you can and share as much as you can.

Thank you so much.
